PM Modi pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Indira Gandhi & Valmiki

New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a humble tribute to the country's First Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 145th birth anniversary on Saturday.
In his Twitter message, Mr Modi said, "A humble tribute to the iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the pioneer of national unity and integrity, on his birth anniversary."
 
Sardar Patel's birth anniversary is celebrated across the country as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) since 2014.
 
PM Modi, whose two-day Gujarat visit started on Friday, reached the Statue of Unity at Kevadiya in Narmada district this morning and offered flowers at the feet of the monument of Sardar Patel.
 
Born in 1875, Sardar Patel was an Indian barrister and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, who played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation. 
 
In India and elsewhere, he was often called Sardar, meaning "chief" in Hindi, Urdu, and Persian. He acted as Home Minister during the political integration of India and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947.
 
After Independence, Patel persuaded almost every princely state to accede to India. His commitment to national integration in the newly independent country was total and uncompromising, earning him the sobriquet "Iron Man of India".
 
Modi remembers Indira Gandhi on her 36th death anniversary
 
New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 36th death anniversary."Tributes to our former PM Smt. Indira Gandhi Ji on her death anniversary," Modi tweeted.
 
The prime minister had paid tribute to Gandhi in his monthly Mann ki Baat radio broadcast last Sunday as well. "On the 31st of October, we lost former Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi. I most respectfully pay my tributes to her," he said.
 
Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi, the first and the only female Prime Minister of the country, was shot dead by her bodyguards on 31 October 1984.
 
PM Modi wishes people on Valmiki Jayanti
 
New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday while wishing people on Valmiki Jayanti said that his ideal ideas based on social harmony, equality and justice will always inspire the countrymen.
 
Mr Modi tweeted, "Many best wishes to all of you on Valmiki Jayanti. His ideal ideas based on social harmony, equality and justice will always inspire the countrymen."
 
According to the Hindu Lunar calendar, Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day in Shukla paksha of the Ashwin month.
 
Maharishi Valmiki was popularly known for writing the epic Ramayana, which consisted of 24,000 shlokas and seven cantos. He was the first of the Sanskrit scriptures.(UNI)
