PM Modi pays tributes on Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary

New Delhi: As the nation celebrates the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his wishes to the people and said Birsa Munda always struggled for protecting the interests of the tribal society.
Taking to twitter, the Prime Minister said, ”Respectful tributes to Lord Birsa Munda ji on his birth anniversary. Along with giving a sharp edge to the freedom movement, he always struggled to protect the interests of the tribal society.
“His contribution to the country will always be remembered” he tweeted.
Born on 15 November in 1875, Birsa Munda's role in the freedom struggle changed the course of modern India’s history. He is known for mobilising the tribal community against the British and forcing them to introduce laws protecting the land rights of tribals.
On November 10, the Union Cabinet had approved the declaration of 15th November as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters so that coming generations could know about their sacrifices for the country.
Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said a large number of national and state-level programmes will be held all through the week till November 22 to build awareness about the role of tribal freedom fighters.
Union Home Minister Amit shah also greeted people on the occasion.
“Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji has given due respect to the contribution of tribal heroes by celebrating the birth anniversary of 'Dharti Aaba' Birsa Munda as 'Tribal Pride Day' to make the glorious history and cultural heritage of the tribal community memorable. Happy Tribal Pride Day to all,” he said in a Tweet.
BJP President JP Nadda also paid his tribute to Birsa Munda. “Tributes to the great freedom fighter, Jannayak Bhagwan Birsa Munda ji on his birth anniversary. Reflection of courage, struggle and sacrifice, 'Dharti Aba' worked to give a new direction to the tribal society with its revolutionary ideas. Hearty greetings to all the countrymen on the occasion of Tribal Pride Day.” Nadda Tweeted. (UNI)
