Born on 15 November in 1875, Birsa Munda's role in the freedom struggle changed the course of modern India’s history. He is known for mobilising the tribal community against the British and forcing them to introduce laws protecting the land rights of tribals.

On November 10, the Union Cabinet had approved the declaration of 15th November as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters so that coming generations could know about their sacrifices for the country.

Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said a large number of national and state-level programmes will be held all through the week till November 22 to build awareness about the role of tribal freedom fighters.

Union Home Minister Amit shah also greeted people on the occasion.

“Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji has given due respect to the contribution of tribal heroes by celebrating the birth anniversary of 'Dharti Aaba' Birsa Munda as 'Tribal Pride Day' to make the glorious history and cultural heritage of the tribal community memorable. Happy Tribal Pride Day to all,” he said in a Tweet.
