Rahul leads opposition protest against cow-vigilante violence

New Delhi: The Opposition Congress Members of Parliament led by party vice president Rahul Gandhi and leaders from other parties, including the Left, Trinamool Congress and RJD, today staged a demonstration in Parliament House premises protesting against "cow-vigilante and anti-Dalit violence". Among others, members like Saugata Roy, Kalyan Banerjee (both Trinamool), Jaiprakash Narain Yadav (RJD), Jyotiraditya Scindia, P Chidambaram and Sushmita Dev staged demonstration raising anti-government slogans.
The opposition members raised slogans like "BJP ko hatana hae, desh ko bachana hae (We need to oust BJP to save the country)". Six Congress Members - Gaurav Gogoi, K Suresh, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Ranjeet Ranjan, Sushmita Dev and M K Raghavan were named by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and suspended for five days for their unruly behaviour and tearing papers and throwing them towards the Chair. The protest is also linked to Speaker's decision, a few Congress leaders said. Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge termed the Chair's decision as unfortunate. (UNI)
