Raj Babbar resigns as UP Congress Chief

Lucknow: Wickets have started falling down after the crucial AICC session as Uttar Pradesh Congress President and yesteryear Bollywood actor Raj Babbar has tendered his resignation, amid speculation of some Brahmin leading the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, as party president.Mr Babbar himself confirmed on Wednesday morning that he has put down his papers."I have done what the party high command wanted," he said.

However, sources said Mr Babbar will continue in his office, till a new President is appointed by the party high command.The Bollywood actor, who resigned on Tuesday night, is likely to be given an important post, like of national campaign convenor for the Lok Sabha polls by the party.Meanwhile, speculations are ripe that a Brahmin youth leader would replace Mr Babbar, with names of former Union minister Jitin Prasada, former MP Rajesh Mishra and Laliteshwar Tripathi doing the rounds.

However, a senior party leader told UNI that there could be four regional presidents in the state, in place of one. The name of Laliteshwar Tripathi, grandson of Late Kamlapati Tripathi or Rajesh Mishra could be finalised for the eastern region, while Raja Ram Pal is likely to head Bundelkhand, Jitin Prasada cpould be chosen for Central and Imran Masood for western UP.(UNI)
