New Delhi: Continuous acrimonious scenes, slogan shouting and members rushing to the Well of the House forced Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the proceedings till 1200 hrs on Monday. There was no let up in protests in the House of People as members from Andhra Pradesh-- belonging to TDP and YSR Congress Party among others-- carrying placards rushed to the Well of the House as soon as the day's proceedings got underway after the weekend break.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party entered into the Well carrying placards demanding Special Category status for Andhra Pradesh while MPs from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) donning pink stoles wanted hike in reservation quota for Muslims in Telangana. The AIADMK members also entered into the Well raising slogans for immediate setting up of Cauvery Water Management Board.
Monday's proceedings in the first hour lasted hardly for couple of minutes. The Speaker hardly called for taking up of listed questions and the first question pertaining to the Ministry of Labour and Employment was named. But as bedlam continued ans Chair's request asking the members to go back to their seats failed, Ms Mahajan adjourned the House till 1200 hrs. Both the Houses of Parliament have failed to transact any major business since the beginning of the second part of the Budget session of Parliament on March 5.(UNI)
