In Indore, a fire broke out on Thursday morning in a penthouse of a three-story commercial-cum-residential building, claiming the life of Pravesh Agrawal, the owner of Mahindra car showroom. Pravesh Agrawal was associated with the Congress party, and senior leaders including Kamal Nath expressed grief over his death.

According to Inspector Neetu Singh, the fire started around 5 AM in a three-story building located in the Lasudia police station area. The car showroom was on the first two floors of the building, while Pravesh Agrawal’s family resided in the penthouse on the third floor.

How the Fire Started

Inspector Singh said, “Preliminary reports indicate that an ‘Akhand Jyoti’ diya in the home’s prayer area caught fire, which spread to the rest of the house. Smoke quickly filled the home, causing suffocation to those inside.”

Agarwal, his wife, and their two minor daughters were sleeping in the house at the time of the fire. Agrawal tragically died, reportedly due to asphyxiation. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Daughter Hospitalized

The inspector added that Agrawal’s elder daughter has been admitted to a private hospital, where doctors are monitoring her condition. The other two family members are reportedly safe. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the fire.

Fire department ASI Sushil Kumar Dubey said, " We reached the site immediately after receiving the information about the fire and managed to control it. Pravesh Agarwal had suffocated due to heavy smoke in the house. When we reached him, he was found unconscious. We have learned that before falling unconscious, he tried his best to get his two daughters out of the house.”

Dubey said that there was not enough space for smoke to escape from the penthouse, adding that vehicles parked on the ground floor of the commercial-cum-residential building were not damaged in the blaze.
