In an inspiring display that proves age and attire are no barriers to passion, a 55-year-old nun from Kerala’s Wayanad district has captured hearts by winning the gold medal in the hurdles event at the State Masters Athletics meet — all while running barefoot and dressed in her religious habit.

Sister Sabina, originally from Kasaragod, moved to Wayanad in the 1990s. A video of her gracefully clearing hurdles at the start of the race has since gone viral, drawing widespread admiration on social media.

In the clip, the nun can be seen effortlessly leaping over hurdles, her composure and confidence winning cheers from the crowd. Spectators applauded as she crossed the finish line, turning the event into a moment of pure inspiration.

Sister Sabina’s athletic journey began when she was in Class 9, competing nationally in the hurdles category. She continued pursuing athletics through her college years before dedicating herself to teaching — participating in fewer competitions over time.

Speaking after her win, Sister Sabina said this might be her final competition, as she plans to retire in March next year.
