Beed: A farmer died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by a moneylender.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Fatale. A case has been registered against Dr Lakshman Jadhav, his wife, and five others in connection with the incident.
Police said today that around seven years ago, Fatale had borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh from Dr Jadhav at an exorbitant monthly interest rate of 10 per cent. Though he regularly paid every month, Fatale was allegedly subjected to continuous threats and mental harassment by Jadhav and his associates.
In a shocking claim, it is reported that Jadhav went as far as to demand that Fatale "send his wife" to him if he was unable to repay the loan, causing severe emotional distress to the farmer. Unable to bear the pressure and humiliation, Fatale ended his life by hanging himself on July 5, police said today.
A case has been registered at Peth Beed police station. Out of the seven accused, three have been arrested, and search is on to locate the others, police said.
