Soldier martyred in encounter with militants in Pulwama

Srinagar:A soldier was martyred in an encounter with militants in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama, the Army spokesperson said on Friday.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in village Hanjin Rajpora in Pulwama, the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) late Thursday night.
 
A soldier of 44 RR was injured during the encounter and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the spokesperson said.
 
Three to four militants are believed to be trapped in the area, he further added.
 
According to sources, residents were moved to safer places.
 
"After receiving the police information about the presence of militants, the operation was launched," the spokesperson informed.
 
After sealing all exit points, when the security forces were moving towards the targeted area, militants fired on the forces, who retaliated leading to an encounter.
 
The operation was on when the last reports came in.
 
Meanwhile, the internet has been suspended in Pulwama as a precautionary measure.
 
Additional security forces were deployed in the nearby area to prevent any law and order situation.
 
As many as 61 militants, including some top commanders, were killed by security forces in different encounters in the valley during the first six months of 2021.

Chinar Coprs on Friday paid tributes to Havaldar Kashi Rao who was killed in an encounter with militants in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
 
Army spokesman said that Hav Rao laid down his life in the line of duty during Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in village Hanjin this morning.
 
'Chinar Corps salutes the valour and sacrifice of Hav Rao. Our condolence to bereaved family', the Chinar Corps said.
