Dindigul (Tamil Nadu): A DMK functionary was hacked to death by an unidentified gang at Vedasandur in Dindigul district late on Thursday night.
Police sources said here on Friday that the deceased Masi (40), who is party’s Vedasandur South Union Treasurer was waylaid by the assailants, when he was returning to his home on a motorcycle after visiting his farm at Perumal Goundanpatti village, and hacked him to death.
The gang attacked Masi with sickles, killing him on the spot and fled the scene.
The attack was so brutal that one of his hands was chopped off by the gang.
His body was shifted to Vedasandur government hospital for post-mortem.
A large number of DMK men and relatives of the deceased staged a protest near the government hospital this morning demanding immediate arrest of the murderers.
Even as the police held talks with the agitators, stones were pelted on a police jeep.
