Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu): In a shocking incident, a woman teacher of Government High School at Mallipattinam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu was stabbed to death by a stalker in the class room for rejecting his marriage proposal on Wednesday.
Police said the deceased M.Ramani (26), hailing from Chinnamanai village near Mallipattinam, was taking class to the students when the accused P.Madhan (30) entered the classroom and stabbed her on the neck with a knife, leaving her in a pool of blood.
Ramani sustained a deep injury in the attack and was rushed to the government hospital at Pattukottai by other teachers of the school.
However, the doctors declared her brought dead.
Police investigations revealed that Madhan and his family members, hailing from the same village, went to Ramani’s house a couple of days ago seeking to get the duo married.
Ramani rejected their marriage proposal, resulting in an altercation between the two families.
Madhan attempted to pacify her, but Ramani refused to marry him. Irate over this, he murdered Ramani, police said.
The Sethubavachatram police arrested the culprit, and further investigations were on.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, in a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), strongly condemned the murder of the woman teacher and said violence against teachers cannot be tolerated.
He expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, students, and fellow teachers of Ramani.
Stern legal action will be taken against the culprit, he added.
Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Minister for Higher Education Govi Chezhian were expected to visit the Pattukottai Government Hospital to pay their homage.
