Three parties meet in Delhi to form grand alliance of Oppn vs Modi Govt

New Delhi: To take on the Narendra Modi led BJP government in the coming Lok Sabha polls, opposition parties have intensified their efforts to form a common platform for all opposition parties, where Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is being entrusted to take the lead. 

Mr Naidu, who landed in the national capital a second time within a week, on Thursday met NCP chief Sharad Pawar and NC president Farooq Abdullah at NCP chief's home and decided to 'take this momentum forward". The TDP chief, who recently quit the NDA, on Thursday met Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Among the three leaders, it was decided that Mr Naidu will contact all the non-BJP parties to discuss possibility of forming a grand alliance against the Narendra Modi government.

"Day by day, the country's situation is deteriorating. There is assault on the institutions such as CBI, ED or the RBI. There was a suggestion from Mr Naidu to discus all these issues collectively. We should invite all non-BJP parties to assess the situation and then take a call. We need to save the democracy, save the institutions, save the nation", Mr Pawar said after the meet. 

Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Abdullah said the country was going through difficult times and added that "We have seen what is happening in the CBI and the RBI. The nation is going through a great crisis. I don't think the nation has seen such a crisis ever since the nation was created. Democracy is in danger, the nation is in danger, the people are in danger". 

He also said the meeting decided to work on a Common Minimum Programme on 'how to save the nation'. 

"Mr Naidu will talk to all regional leaders to meet. We will convene the meeting here", Mr Abdullah said. Elaborating the plans, Mr Naidu said they wanted to talk to all the leaders including Mr Gandhi.

"Country is facing so many problems, democracy is in danger, We are all feeling bad. So we will have a meeting in Delhi to discuss how to move forward. 

"We need to protect the future of the coming generation and the future of this great nation", the TDP chief added. (UNI)
