Lucknow: A woman from Hardoi district was rescued by alert police near the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow after she attempted self-immolation, alleging financial fraud and inaction by local authorities.
The woman, identified as Roli Devi, reached the high-security Gautampalli area this morning, reportedly carrying a flammable substance with the intent to protest by threatening to harm herself.
Police personnel, including members of the rapid response team, acted swiftly and prevented the situation from escalating.
Roli Devi has alleged that she was defrauded of Rs 60 lakh by a man named Vicky Mishra, who had promised to help her purchase a house. She further claimed that despite repeated complaints, Hardoi police have failed to take concrete action in the matter.
Frustrated with the lack of progress, she reportedly came to Lucknow to draw attention to her plight.
Authorities on the scene acted promptly and ensured her safety. She has since been taken for medical evaluation and is being counseled. Senior officials confirmed that her statements are being recorded, and the matter is being re-examined.
A senior police officer said, “We are taking the woman’s concerns seriously. The relevant case details are being looked into, and further action will follow as per law.”
