Timely action by Kejriwal government infused new spirit into peasants' movement

New Delhi:The Modi government at the Centre and Khattar government in Haryana drew flak for using reprehensive measures to derail the ongoing struggle of farmers, currently fighting on the streets for a long time now to save their lands and livelihood.
There is no denying the fact that the new agriculture laws, enacted by the Modi-led Union government, were being enforced on the farmers by using of brute force, while the Kejriwal government in Delhi put in place a string of measures in support of the struggling farmers, which had  infused new spirit into the ongoing agitation against the draconian laws.

This is an open secret now that the BJP-ruled Union and Haryana governments had employed all repressive measures to thwart the farmers' protest march by restricting their entry into the national capital. On the other hand, the Delhi government, had whole-heartedly supported the legitimate demands of the struggling farmers, and put in place all facilities for their comfortable stay in Delhi.

The Delhi Police, which were directly  controlled by the Centre, had sought permission from the Kejriwal government to convert stadiums into makeshift detention centres for farmers, which, it added, was unwarranted, besides being a clear case of human rights violation.

The Kejriwal government took a landmark decision to outright reject the Delhi police's request to convert the stadium into temporary jails, which was a well thought-out design of the Centre to crush the peasant agitation by resorting to inhuman measures. The timely action by the AAP's Delhi government had added zing to the ongoing farmers' stir for survival and sustenance.

The AAP party government in Delhi, immediately after announcing its open support to the farmers, went the whole hog to initiate measures to facilitate the country's 'Anaadaata in every possible way making his stay in Delhi comfortable.

The party MLAs got personally involved in making suitable arrangements for food, drinking water and comfortable stay of the farmers in the national amid the prevailing chilling weather conditions. The Delhi government had issued orders to Delhi Jal Board to provide potable water to the farmers, following which the authorities concerned swung into action to ensure uninterrupted  supply of water through tankers.

While the Delhi government was extending its whole-hearted support to the farmers'movement, the Aam Aadmi Party's Punjab unit leadership and its workers were doing their bit in the ongoing movement under the banner of farmer organizations sans any political interest.

It may be recalled that the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab MLAs had also staged a massive protest in front of PM Narendra Modi's residence in Delhi yesterday, where they were manhandled by the Delhi police and detained for hours in various police stations for hours, before they were let off.
