Kolkata:Two-time MP from Asansol and former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who was dropped from the Narendra Modi ministry in recent reshuffle, on Saturday announced to quit politics, according to Facebook account of singer turned politician.

" Alvida ' fifty-year-old Babul Supriyo began wrote in Bengali on his Facebook account and
said, " I'm not going to any political party. TMC, Congress, CPM nobody has called me, I'm
not going anywhere. I need some time to do social work. It is not necessary to be in the politics
for doing social work," the two time MP from Asansol 2014, 2019, said.

" Yes obviously I would resign from my MP ship too," he added.“ I have stayed for too long. I will leave my house (government allotted quarters) within one month." he added.

Babul Supriyo, who on his first win in 2014 as an MP was given a junior ministerial berth in
the Modi government and was also allotted for the second term in 2019, but in the recent
rejig, he was dropped from the cabinet on July 7 and many faces got in in which five of them
from Bengal.

Babul Supriyo's image dented after he lost in the recently held assembly poll to Bengal minister and TMC candidate Aroop Biswas from Tollygunj, a movie hub of Bengal.

“I have made some of you happy, some sad but after a long discussion, I am saying I am
leaving. Previously I tried to convince Amit Shah and JP Nadda but each time they persuaded
me to stay in politics. I will never forget their love and so I can’t go to them, I don’t have the
audacity to go to them and say this. I have decided what I will do; I had decided long back so
if I go now they may feel I am bargaining and when that is not right I don’t want them to have
the wrong idea. I only pray they don’t misunderstand me.”

"I like to say there was a lot of misunderstanding between me and the party leadership that
started way before the elections.I thought that was normal but those incidents were often
being brought to the fore. For that, some leaders were as much responsible as myself as
I too had shared a post on social media which can be seen as an act of breaching party
discipline," said Babul Supriyo.

"However, it was clear that clash of opinions among the senior leadership was not only harmful for the party, but was enough to break the confidence of ground-zero workers. This was unwanted.," he added.

During the first term of the BJP-led NDA government, Babul Supriyo was a minister of
state for urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation from November 2014
to July 2016, and minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises from
July 2016 to May 2019.He also served as minister of state for environment.(UNI)
