Etawah (UP): Panic gripped the passengers when smoke started coming out of a bogie of Unchahar Express near the Etawah railway station of Uttar Pradesh on the Delhi-Howrah railway route on Sunday, police sources said here.
Police sources said that after getting the information from the railway control room, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reached the spot and controlled the situation.
GRP police station in-charge Shailesh Nigam said that smoke suddenly started coming out of the bag of a passenger travelling in the bogie of Unchahar Express (14218) train going from Delhi to Prayagraj in Etawah. A passenger informed the GRP control room about the incident, he said.
On receiving the information, the GRP stopped the train near Farrukhabad railway crossing, by then the smoke coming out of the passenger's bag had stopped. The smoke coming out of the bag was controlled with the fire extinguisher installed inside the train.
After checking the train bogie, the train was sent to its destination. The passenger whose bag was emitting smoke at Ekdil station was taken off the train by the RPF for questioning. Smoke was emitting from two bags kept between seat number 49 and 53 of S4 coach of Unchahar Express.
In the preliminary investigation, it came to light that the smoke was emitted due to rubbing of a matchbox packet. A case has been registered under the Railway Act against the railway passenger Anil Kumar.
