Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Thursday came down heavily on Uttar Pradesh government over Unnao gang-rape case and custodial death of minor victim's father and asked whether the UP government would arrest the accused BJP MLA or not.
The divisional bench of High Court headed by Chief Justice D B Bhosle, taking the suo motu cognisance of the matter, deferred the arguments on Thursday seeking to know from the government whether they would arrest the MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar or not.
The HC on Wednesday has admitted senior advocate Gopal S Chaturvedi letter to the court for a 'court-monitored probe' on the matter as a Public Interest Litigation plea.Earlier the government counsel informed the court that the police had already lodged an FIR against the legislator and the matter been recommended for a CBI probe.
The bench would sit again after the lunch to hear the government counsel's reply on the arrest of the MLA.According to the victim, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, Bangermau MLA, raped her on June 17, 2017. Her father, died in the judicial custody on Monday, almost a week after he was allegedly thrashed by supporters of the legislator.(UNI)
