A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Baselwa Colony in the Old Faridabad police station area of Haryana. A 21-year-old college student died by suicide after allegedly being blackmailed by cybercriminals who used artificial intelligence (AI) to create fake obscene videos and photos of him and his sisters.
AI-Generated Fake Videos Used for Blackmail
The deceased, identified as Rahul (21), was a second-year student at DAV College, Faridabad. According to reports, a group of cybercriminals first hacked Rahul’s mobile phone and then used AI-based software to generate nude images and videos showing him with his sisters.
They later sent these doctored videos to Rahul via WhatsApp, demanding Rs 20,000 in ransom. The blackmailers threatened to make the obscene videos go viral on social media if he didn’t pay the money.
Mental Distress Before the Tragedy
Family members revealed that Rahul’s behavior had changed drastically over the past 15 days. He had become withdrawn, wasn’t eating properly, and avoided talking to anyone. His family had no idea that he was under such severe psychological stress.
On Saturday evening around 7 PM, Rahul reportedly consumed sulphas tablets in his room. His family rushed him to the hospital, but he could not be saved.
Final Message to a Friend
Before taking the extreme step, Rahul sent a photo of the sulphas tablets to his childhood friend, Sahil, and even asked him about consuming it. Instead of alerting Rahul’s family or trying to stop him, Sahil allegedly replied with a casual “OK.” The family has claimed that Sahil was aware of the blackmail and could have helped prevent Rahul’s death.
Police Registers Case
The Old Police Station has registered a case against the deceased student’s friend, Sahil, for abetment of suicide. The police are currently investigating the matter and making efforts to trace the cybercriminals involved in the incident.
Rising Misuse of AI and Cyber Awareness
This tragic case highlights the dangerous misuse of artificial intelligence and social media, showing how such technology can devastate lives when used maliciously. Authorities emphasize the urgent need for cyber awareness and digital safety education to prevent such incidents in the future.
