Alicia Stone, a 40-year-old NYPD detective and mother of three, has tragically died just one week after undergoing a butt lift and liposuction procedure in Colombia, according to the New York Post.
Stone, a 13-year veteran of the New York Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was discovered unresponsive in her hotel room in Colombia on Thursday. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead shortly after arrival. The cause of death has been listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest.”
According to reports, Stone had undergone liposuction and a gluteal fat transfer on October 16. Following the surgery, she was placed on anticoagulants and painkillers and was recovering in a hotel under post-operative care.
Her husband, Michael Stone, said he was devastated by the sudden loss and is now demanding an autopsy and a full investigation.
“The doctor who called me from Colombia just called me and told me my wife had just passed away.She didn't have any information to tell me when I was asking her….Something just doesn't add up,” Michael told The Daily News.
“To be called Thursday and told that she passed away, that is just shocking and hurtful. I don't have the facts, and that's what I need, the facts of what happened,” he said.
Michael added that Alicia appeared “perfectly fine” before the surgery and had even told family members a day before her death that she was feeling well.
Stone’s death has raised serious concerns about the safety of overseas cosmetic surgeries, which have become increasingly popular among Americans seeking lower-cost procedures in countries like Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
