Why is PM still silent, asks Congress on Manipur situation

New Delhi: Congress, which has been blaming the BJP government in Manipur over the current situation in the aftermath of last month's violence, on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he is still 'silent' and made an appeal for "reconciliation'.

Attacking the ruling dispensation, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh while referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the Northeastern state, in a tweet wrote, "There appears to be no letting up in the enormous disaster that has engulfed Manipur for the past seven weeks. The Home Minister visited belatedly after a month and the nation must be thankful for small mercies."

"But why is the Prime Minister still silent ? Why doesn't he visit the state and make an appeal for reconciliation between communities? Why can’t he at least encourage an all-party delegation to go to Manipur ?," he questioned.

Last week, a delegation of the Congress party led by its chief Mallikarjun Kharge met President Droupadi Murmu and submitted a memorandum to her on the Manipur situation.

The party had said, "The current 'crisis' in Manipur is the result of the 'divisive politics' of BJP in the state. It is also the result of the intelligence failure of the state government." (UNI)
