Vijayawada: In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old student was set on fire by pouring petrol on him allegedly by his friends at Rajol village in Cherukupalli Mandal of Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.
Police said that the deceased Amarnath was studying 10 th class. When he was returning from the tuition point, Venkateswara Reddy, along with two others, allegedly poured petrol on the boy and set him on fire.
The passersby, who saw the boy in flames, put out the flames and shifted the boy to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur.
The deceased Amaranth sustained severe burns and he died while undergoing treatment in the GGH.
Cherukupalli Sub-Inspector Konda Reddy registered a case and shifted the body for postmortem.
Reddayya, the grand-father of deceased Amarnath told the media that the accused Venkateswara Reddy had been harassing the elder sister of Amarnath for the last few months for which the deceased vehemently objected.
Growing a grudge on this, Venkateswara Reddy poured petrol and burnt the boy.
It is learnt that the deceased boy in his dying declaration mentioned the names of the accused.
TDP MLA Anagani Satya Prasad condemned the burning of a 10th class student.
