Bengal coal scam: CBI seeks to quiz wife of Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata: The CBI, probing the coal scam in West Bengal, is keen to quiz Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Banerjee for some clarification into the controversial case, including the transaction of funds.
Local media reported that a team of five Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials had been at Abhishek Banerjee’s house at Kalighat in south Kolkata on Sunday noon to call on Rujira Banerjee. But the CBI officials were told that there was no one right now in the house, which was guarded by the state police security personnel.
It was not immediately known if the CBI officials could deliver any notice in the house to meet the investigating officials, whose mobile numbers were also given for contact.
The CBI is keen to know if Rujira Banerjee would join the investigations by the CBI in the case involving allegations of coal smuggling.
The CBI already served a lookout notice for a suspected coal mafia Anup Majhi alias Lala, who is evading arrest.
The allegations are that the coal mafia paid regular kickbacks to some influential leaders of the stat
The money was allegedly channelled through the TMC’s youth leader Vinay Mishra, who is under scanner in the case and is currently absconding. (UNI)
