BJP’s Bhawanipur by-poll candidate Priyanka Tibrewal booked for protesting with dead body near Mamata Banerjee’s residence

Kolkata: The city police has filed FIRs against Bengal BJP president Sukanta Mazumder, party's Bhawanipur's by-poll candidate Priyanka Tibrewal and two MPs for leading a procession with a body of a party worker near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee residence at Kalighat on Thursday.
The case has been registered at the Kalighat police station against Sukanta Majumder and other party leaders, including Arjun Singh, Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato and Priyanka Tibrewal.
The FIR was registered under sections 143, 147, and 283 of the Indian Police Code (IPC), which relate to unlawful assembly, rioting, obstruction, and using criminal force to deter public servants from discharging their duties.
A scuffle ensued with BJP supporters and the police on Thursday after a procession led by Sukanta Majumder was stopped by the law enforcing agency with the body of Dhurjati Saha.
The procession was on its way to Kalighat crematorium which suddenly took a detour through Harish Chatterjee Street, and the policemen immediately cordon off the to stop the movement of the hearse.
At this, the BJP supporters raised slogans against the ruling party, as the hearse moved forward. BJP lawmaker Arjun Singh and the party’s candidate for Bhabanipur by-elections, Priyanka Tibrewal, were also seen protesting against the police action. (UNI)
