Class 9, 10 and 11 students to be promoted without exam, announces TN CM Palaniswami

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced that all students of classes 9, 10 and 11 would be declared passed without taking the annual exams in view of the covid pandemic.
Making a Statement Under Rule 11 in the State Assembly, he said taking into account the unusual situation faced by the students and teachers and based on the requests of the patents and the views of the educational experts, students of classes 9, 10, and 11 would be declared passed without taking the annual and board exams for the academic year 2020-21.
He said the government would issue detailed guidelines for calculating the marks for the students.
Recalling the lockdown declared on March 25 last year and the subsequent relaxations announced by the government in view of the corona pandemic, Mr Palaniswami said after the virus spread was brought under control, schools were reopened for Classes 10 and 12 from January 19 this year and the students were given immunity boosters and vitamin tablets.
He said right through the academic year 2020-21, students were attending classes through Kalvi TV and by online mode in view of the pandemic-induced lockdown.
He said taking into account the constraints being faced by the students while learning through online mode, the syllabus were reduced, he said. (UNI)
