Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday launched the 2GB free data per day scheme.
At a function held at the State Secretariat, Mr Palaniswami formally launched the scheme by handing over data kits to few students in the presence of new Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan and other officials.
The 2b free data per day scheme would benefit nine lakh college students.
The free data will be provided to students till April 2021.
All colleges in Tamil Nadu have been conducting online classes in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Though physical classes were being offered to final-year UG and PG students, a majority of them still prefer to study through online classes.
“More than nine lakh students studying in government and aided arts and science, polytechnic, and engineering colleges and students receiving scholarships in private colleges will get free 2 GB data every day for online till April 2021,” Mr Palaniswami said in a statement.
The data cards will be distributed through the State-owned Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (ELCOT). (UNI)
