Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday shed tears over the disgusted remark made about his birth by DMK MP and former Union Minister A Raja and appealed to the women to imagine what will happen if these forces comes to power.
Campaigning for Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar in the city for the April six Assembly polls, Mr Palaniswami turned emotional and said he chose not to speak on the issue.
But, having seen the presence a large number of women, he was compelled to raise the issue.
Terming Raja’s remarks as disgusting, he said is this how they speak if chief minister is a common man?
“If this is the condition for chief minister, who will protect the common people? Imagine what will happen to women if such people come to power”, he added.
“I am not talking about my story here, everyone is born to a mother”, he said and appealed to the people to teach a lesson to the DMK, who were making disgusting, uncivilised and demeaning remarks about women and motherhood.
Stating that his mother was born in a village and a farmer, Mr Palaniswami said she worked day and night. She is no more now.
How disgusting that comment was made by Raja, he added.
“Even if it is a rich or poor person, Mother is highest of all. Whoever talks ill about motherhood and women, God will punish them for sure”, Mr Palaniswami said.
All the mothers should imagine what will happen if these people come to the power, he said.
Raja, while campaigning in the Thousand Lights constituency in the city, had made a derogatory comment against the Chief Minister while comparing his political journey with that of DMK President Stalin and said while his leader was born out of a rightful marriage after 300 days, Mr Palaniswami, who did not reach any heights in public life until former leader J Jayalalithaa’s death, was born prematurely out of an illicit affair in politics.
This triggered protests from the AIADMK, who staged agitations across the state for the second day today demanding the arrest of Raja and the AIADMK also lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer demanding action against him under Electoral offences and under the IPC.
After the CEO forwarded the complaint, cases were registered under three sections against Raja, Chennai City Police Chief Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal said. (UNI)
