Ex-AIADMK Minister Manikandan arrested for rape, forced abortion of Malaysian actress

Chennai: Former AIADMK Minister M.Manikandan was on Sunday arrested by a Special team from a house in Bengaluru following complaints from a Malaysian-Indian woman for impregnating her and forceful abortion.

Manikandan had a live-in relationship with the woman, who was also an actor and was charged with miscarriage and criminally intimidating her.

The woman a couple of weeks back lodged a complaint against Manikandan, accusing him of cheating her following which the Adyar All Women Police registered cases against him under various Secs of the IPC, including 376 (rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 417 (punishment for cheating), 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) and the IT Act.

Soon after the police registered cases against him, Manikandan went missing and two special teams, formed to nab him, arrested him from a house at Bengaluru.

The Madras High Court had already denied him anticipatory bail.

In her complaint, the woman said Manikandan had cheated her after having been in a live-in relationship with her for a few years.

She also alleged that he had promised to marry her and made her pregnant thrice forced her for abortions, besides threatening her family members in Malaysia when she insisted that he marry her.

However, Mr Manikandan denied all the charges levelled against him by the woman. (UNI)
