Chennai: A life-size statue of Dravidian stalwart and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, fondly called as 'Anna' (elder brother) was found desecrated by miscreants at Kandamangalam village on the Villuppuram-Puducherry National Highway in the early hours of Monday.
Anna is the Founder of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Police sources said the statue was found garlanded with slippers and its face was covered with the DMK’s party flag.
The unidentified miscreants had also tied a poster of DMK MP A.Raja, who had recently made some unsavoury comments about the Hindus, to the statue.
Locals, who found that the statue was desecrated, informed the police.
Police officials rushed to the spot and removed the footwear and the poster from the statue immediately.
Police have deployed additional personnel in the area to prevent any untoward incident. (UNI)
