New Delhi: Subsidised Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for domestic cooking will cost Rs 32 per cylinder in New Delhi and even more in other part of the country, thanks to Goods and Services Tax (GST). As per the prices fixed by the public sector petroleum distribution companies, in New Delhi a 14.2 kg cylinder will cost Rs 477.46 which was available at Rs 446.65 before the rollout of GST on July 1, 2017.

It will cost Rs 480.32 in Kolkata whereas the price in Mumbai will be Rs 491.25 per cylinder. As far as non-subsidised LPG cylinder is concerned, it will be made available in Delhi at Rs 564.00, in Kolkata at Rs 584.00. It will cost Rs 553.50 in Mumbai whereas the cost in Chennai will be Rs 574.00. This has happened as a 5 percent tax was levied on subsidised LPG under GST, which subsumed more than a dozen central and state levels.

This is the steepest increase in domestic subsidised LPG rate since June 25, 2011, a hike of Rs 50 per cylinder, which was necessitated due to a jump in international oil prices. The 5 per cent GST resulted in a Rs 26.88 increase in rate per cylinder in Delhi and the remaining hike of about Rs 3 is because of the decision since June last year to raise prices by about Rs 2 to cut the subsidy.
