New Delhi:The Railways Ministry decided to introduce flexi fare system for Rajdhani/Duronto/Shatabadi wherein the fares of these trains will rise by 150 per cent. Under the flexi fare system, the base fares of these trains will increase by 10 per cent with every 10 per cent of berths sold subject to a prescribed ceiling limit. There will be no change in the existing fare for tier-I AC and EC class of travel. This has been stated in a direction issued by the Ministry to zonal railways headquarters. The 'flexi' fare system would be applicable to all classes except the executive class. The new system would come into force from September 9.

Hike in Rajdhani, Duronto fares expose the true face of Modi govt : Congress

Slamming the decision of the NDA government to introduce 'flexi' fare for Rajdhani and Duronto trains, which would lead to a 150 per cent hike in fares of these trains, the Congress today said the decision had exposed the true face of the Modi government. ''The SuitBootModiSarkar exposes it's true face by taxing ordinary railway passengers by surge pricing ,but exempts 1st/Executive Class,'' AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala said. Mr Surjewala said that while corporates had got loan waiver of Rs 11,2000 cr from the NDA government, the Modi government was fleecing the common man through surge pricing.

He said that the hike showed that 'acche din' for Railways was another 'jumla'. ''Modi Government will collect additional Rs 1,000 cr by upto 50 per cent hike in Duronto/Rajdhani/Shatabadi surge pricing. Acche Din for Railways is another Jumla,''he said. He said the railways had applied the exploitative policies of surge pricing followed by Uber and Ola. "Uber/Ola are exploitative by using surge pricing, says ModiSarkar but applies the same to millions of train travellers. Why? The truth is that the Modi Sarkar is converting 'Public Service Provider' Railways into Ola/Uber 'surge pricing cabs' in the brazen garb of Dyanmic pricing,'' Mr Surjewala said. (UNI )
