Tiruchirapalli:In what would be perceived as an embarrassment for the Congress in Tamil Nadu, a senior leader of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), its close ally on Saturday said the DMK should not continue alliance with Congress and the party must contest alone in the local bodies elections.

"How long the DMK could lift palanquin for the Congress in the State," asked former Minister K N Nehru, while addressing a rally organized by the party to condemn the AIADMK government for its failure to address the water scarcity across the state.

He recalled during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, DMK President M.K.Stalin's capability led to the victory of not only the DMK, but also its allies including the Congress. But, some Congress leaders were making inappropriate comments.

Mr Nehru, who is party's Tiruchirapalli district secretary said he will impress upon the party leadership to go it alone in the local bodies' elections when they were held in the state, if not atleast in Tiruchirapalli district.

He however maintained that it was his personal opinion and not that of the party. I would accept whatever decision taken by "thalaivar" (party President), he added.(UNI)
