Karnataka NEP panel recommends inclusion of Hindu Genocide in school textbooks

Bengaluru: Raising questions on the curious absence of many Indian cultural and historical texts, the Karnataka expert panel on NEP implementation has recommended inclusion of Hindu Genocide in textbooks and principles of Bharatiya Dharma Parampara. 

The panel headed by IIT BHU's V Ramanathan has submitted a report titled 'Position Paper on Knowledge of India' to School Education Research and Training Department.'

The report proposes that historical events like genocide of the Malabar Hindus, popularly known as Moplah riots, Maharashtrian brahmins and Kashmiri Hindus and many others should be included in the textbooks as a part of the mainstream history or political science.

It also states that the purpose of inclusion of these historical events that are missing from the textbooks should be perceived as learnings from history through local communities, not as a tool to provoke a section of society.

These recommendations are based on references that holocaust denial is a statutory crime in many European countries.

NEP Implementation Task Force Head Madan Gopal is of the opinion that historical error has to be corrected. Probably, historians must have had their agenda to have omitted these historical events, he added.

It also proposes many other inclusions which span subjects from Indic languages to science, from Maths to history and political science.

The report recommended giving equal space to Bharatiya Dharma Parampara or Sanatan Dharma in the text books.

"It has been noticed that Bh?rat's culture and its civilization’s main accomplishments are not highlighted. Bh?rat?ya Dharma Parampar? is neither introduced in a holistic manner nor projected with the right perspective whereas Christianity and Islam are presented in individual chapters," the report states.

The report also suggests inclusion of Arthashastra, Mahabharata, Ramayana and other Indic concepts in economics and civics.

It further recommends inclusion of accomplishments of Indian kings, scientists, mathematicians, philosophers and thinkers in the textbooks. (UNI)
