Maharashtra: Shiv Sangram chief Vinayak Mete dies in accident near Khopoli

Mumbai: Shiv Sangram chief Vinayak Mete passed away on Sunday after his car met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, near Khopoli in Maharashtra, police said.
Mete was travelling in an SUV and was returning from Pune when the mishap took place. He was admitted to the MGM Hospital in Kamothe, said sources.
Sources further said he was heading to Mumbai for a meeting and was later expected to go to his hometown Beed to attend the Independence day rally.
Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis reached the hospital on Sunday morning.
CM Shinde said, “Vinayak Mete’s death is shocking and painful. We have lost an honest warrior who fought for the cause of Maratha community. He was coming to Mumbai to attend the meeting on Maratha community related issues, called by me. He remained committed to the cause and with social movements in the state till his last breath.”

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari tweeted “The news of the accidental death of Shiv Sangram Organization President Vinayak Mete is very shocking. His social work and contribution to the development of the marginalized sections of the society, is great.” (UNI)
