Nagpur: The principal and sports teacher of a residential school in Maharashtra’s Gondia district were suspended after some students were forced to travel in a single vehicle on their way back from a sport-related event, around 30 km away from their school, sources said.

The overcrowded vehicle led to a reduced level of oxygen and some girls, who were already tired from the sports event, fainted, sources said.

The incident occurred on Saturday when students in a government Ashramshala for tribal children in Majitpur (Gondia) had gone to Koylari village regarding sports event.

However, on the way back to their school, they were forced to travel in a overcrowded vehicle, resulting in some students fainted due to suffocation and had to be hospitalised.

It was the school principal’s responsibility to ensure the safety of students during the event. But due to his sheer negligence, the students had to suffer.

After initiating an inquiry, both the principal and the sports teacher of the school were found guilty and on Monday they were suspended, the sources added. (UNI)
