Maharashtra: Transgender alleges of being raped in Nagpur central jail

Nagpur: A murder accused transgender, lodged in Central Jail here, alleged that she was raped by on-duty police personnel and some prisoners frequently since the past some times.
The transgender revealed that she was raped but the Jail administration allegedly neglected the complaints filed by the victim.
The victim then moved the High Court. Subsequently, based on a petition, the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has issued notices to the Jail Superintendent and DIG and sought their replies by May 6.
The court has also ordered the Jail Superintendent to present the complainant transgender before Dhantoli police for filing an FIR against the accused.
The petition filed by the victim transgender in the High Court, names of the accused persons have been mentioned. They are Sachin Tichkule, PSI Karpande, Bhosale, prisoners Mukesh Yadav and Darshan Singh Kapoor. It is learnt that as the jail administration neglected the victim's complaints, following the incident the transgender had resorted to fast agitation.
The victim had even approached the Sessions Court in this matter but no action was initiated. Finally, a petition was filed in the High Court.
It may be recalled here that in June 2019, a group of transgender had attacked another transgender named Chamcham murderously over the hostility between two groups of transgender over establishing supremacy in their field of activity. And the attacked transgender later succumbed to injuries.
Subsequently, police had arrested five transgenders for their alleged involvement in the murder and they were lodged in male barracks of Nagpur Central Jail. Later, four of them were granted bail but the said victim transgender was still in jail.
The victim had pleaded with jail administration for separate barracks but no action was taken.
Meanwhile, the police personnel and some prisoners abused the victim(transgender) sexually for days, the sources added. (UNI)
