Shillong: A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his former girlfriend by slitting her throat with a knife in front of her father on Monday evening in Meghalaya, police said today.
The accused, identified as Roberto Marngar (25), allegedly slit Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew’s throat at the Pyndengumiong parking lot in Mairang under the Eastern West Hills district in full public glare.
An alert public intervened and caught Roberto and detained him before he was handed over to the police.
Kharsyntiew was rushed to Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
According to the victim’s father, Sarding Mairang, Kharsyntiew had told him that she wanted to end the relationship with Marngar.
“When we met at the parking lot, I had spoken to the accused and asked him about their unresolved issues. However, he (Marngar) suddenly pounced on his daughter and slashed her throat with a knife in full public glare,” Mairang said.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victim demanded the harshest punishment for the accused.
“We fully trust the law of the land. We want the harshest punishment for the accused so it serves as a deterrent to others,” Tisharlang Kharsyntiew, the younger brother of the victim, said.
