Srinagar: To foil “Seerat Conference”, authorities today put under house arrest moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and also closed historic Jamia Masjid.

The Mirwaiz was again put under house arrest to prevent him from attending “Seerat Conference” at Jamia Masjid on the following Friday of “Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi”, birthday of Prophet Muhammad, Media Advisor of amalgam chairman Advocate Shahidul Islam told UNI.

He said this morning, a large number of security forces and state police personnel arrived at the Nigeen house of the Mirwaiz, who was later informed that he cannot move out till further orders.
Advocate Islam said he too also remained under house arrest since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag.

However, the death of Burhan was followed by heavy protests and clashes during which over 90 people, mostly youths, were killed and several thousands injured in security force action in the Valley. (UNI)
