Odisha man attempts 'human sacrifice' of his father for hidden treasure, alert villagers get him arrested

Bhubaneswar: The timely intervention of neighbours and Police saved a man from being sacrificed by his son to get hidden treasure.

Police said on instigation of a tantric, one Lingaraj Sahu of Belapada village under Jaypatna Police station of Kalahandi district has made all arrangements to sacrifice his father Baldev to fulfil his lust for hidden treasure.

Fortunately it was foiled by the alert villagers and prompt action by the Police. Neighbours said Lingaraj who used to physically torture his father often on Friday got his father bathed in the village tube well, dressed him in new clothes, put tilak on his forehead and put garland on him before the tantric conducted the puja in his house.

The neighbours, after knowing about Lingaraj's plan, immediately informed the nearby Kalampur Police outpost.

A three-member Police team led by Out Post in charge reached the spot and rescued Baldev from his house. But while they were getting out of the house with Baldev, Lingaraj pelted the team with sharp weapons and stone.

A member of the team- the Home Guard was seriously injured in the attack and admitted to Kalampur CHC. Later a Police team from Jaipatna Police Station reached the village and arrested Lingaraj and the Tantric.

Sources said both the accused were produced in the court and the Court forwarded them to jail after rejecting their bail applications. (UNI)
