Odisha: Ward member brutally attacked by son of rape accused for giving witness

Sambalpur: A ward member was brutally attacked by the son of a rape accused for giving witness before the magistrate against the accused in the court.
As per information, a 65-year-old man Hadu Bag of Baham village under Sadar police station had raped a mentally retarded lady of his village on September 27 last.
When the villagers came to know about it, they rescued the lady and informed the police. Acting on the FIR, the Sadar police arrested Hadu and forwarded him to the court.
On the date of hearing, ward member of the village, Upendra Meher, an eye witness, narrated the details before the magistrate that enraged both Hadu and his family members.
To take revenge, Sumanta Bag (30), the son of Hadu brutally attacked the ward member with stone on Tuesday for being a witness against his father.
Upendra got critically injured during the attack. Another person who came forward to rescue Upendra, also faced the wrath of Sumanta and injured.
The injured ward member informed Sadar police which swung into action, arrested Sumanta today and forwarded him to the court.
“If youths or anyone will not hesitate to take law to hands, police will also show zero tolerance to them,” warned Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar. (UNI)
