One arrested for lynching on Delhi-Mathura train, accused sent to police custody

New Delhi: One person has been arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in connection with the murder of a Muslim teen on board a Delhi-Mathura train in Ballabgarh Haryana.

The police said the accused was today sent to three days police custody by a local court. 'We are trying to garner more evidence and also trying to corroborate testimonies of the victims,' a senior police official said.
 However, the police declined to identify the accused. Meanwhile, the other victim Hashim has been discharged from the AIIMS Trauma Centre while Sakir is still recovering from the injuries.
 A delegation of CPI-M leaders comprising senior leader Brinda Karat, Member of Parliament Mohammed Salim, Haryana state secretary Surinder Malik and other party leaders visited the affected family members of Junaid, Sakir and Hashim.
The CPI-M Haryana unit has threatened to organise protest against the incident. A group of people attacked a Muslim youth on board a train on Thursday night, stabbing him to death while injuring two of his brothers over an argument triggered due to the possession of seats, the police said.
The brothers were said to be returning to a Faridabad village after Eid shopping from Delhi, as the train reached Ballabgarh a group of people who entered the compartments got into a scuffle with the family over the issue of seats in the train.
The boy who lost his life was identified as Junaid (17) while his brothers Hashim (21) and Sakir (23) were severely injured. A murder case has been registered by the GRP. UNI APS RBE SNU 1938.(UNI)
