Sushma assures help to Karnataka man to get his Pakistani wife

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said that the government will look into the controversy pertaining to Karnataka man marrying a Pakistani Christian woman. "We will examine this," Ms Swaraj said in a tweet and tagged the news item about Daniel Henry Devanur "marrying" Silvia Noreen, at a Pentecostal church in Lahore.

The news item also carried a snap of the couple. According to media reports, the couple is "struggling to live together", and Daniel is "running from pillar to post to bring his wife back to India". In a tweet to Ms Swaraj on April 3, Daniel made a plea: "Dear mam please help my wife is in Pakistan".

On the previous day, on April 2, Daniel tweeted to President Pranab Mukherjee and sought his intervention too. "@RashtrapatiBhvn Respected sir my wife is in Pakistan please help me to bring her back to India need your help". Daniel and Silvia’s marriage is reportedly facing diplomatic troubles as Silvia is a Pakistani national and Daniel has been unable to get a sponsorship certificate for his wife. (UNI)
