Chennai: In a significant development, two tigers were spotted after a gap of 50 years in the Reserve Forests of Jawalagiri range in the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary at Hosur in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.
The tigers were recorded in camera traps set up by the forest department, official sources said.
Mr Srinivas R Reddy, Chief Wildlife Warden said Wildlife warden Hosur, Ms K.Karthikeyani, has reported that there is a direct recording of two Tigers--a male Tiger in the age group of 4-5 and another Tiger in the age group of 8-9 years.
Jawalagiri range is adjacent to the recently notified Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary which is a part of the continuous landscape of protected areas.
The presence of tigers shows that the habitat is viable to accommodate spill over tiger population from Bhanerghatta National Park and nearby protected areas indicating success of the conservation efforts.
