Saharanpur: Uttar Pradesh government has refused to give permission to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to visit the trouble torn area tomorrow. Earlier, Mr Gandhi had announced to visit Sabbirpur village tomorrow along with some other party leaders. Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Law and Order, Aditya Mishra, who is camping here along with three other senior officials from Lucknow, said that no permission was given to the Congress leader.

Congress sources, however, said Mr Gandhi has not yet decided to postpone his visit even after the UP government's decision to deny permission to visit Saharanpur. "We have informed the Saharanpur local authorities about the proposed visit of the Congress leaders and we expect that they will allow us. There is no official communication from the Saharanpur district authorities yet," the sources said.

However, senior officials in the State capital said that the Saharanpur district authorities had earlier announced not to allow any politician to visit the trouble-torn areas after violence broke out after the visit of BSP chief Mayawati to Sabbirpur village on Tuesday. (UNI)
