VIDEO: Men who pulled 17-yr-old schoolgirl’s dupatta, causing her death, shot in leg in police encounter in UP

Ambedkar Nagar (UP): Three youths accused of killing a girl were injured in an encounter while attempting to escape from the police custody after snatching the rifle of a personnel in Baskhari area of Ambedkar Nagar district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said here.
 
Police sources said that the incident took place on September 15 when the 17-year-old victim, a class 11th student, was returning home from the college. "Two miscreants Shahbaz and his brother Arbaz came from the behind on a motorcycle and snatched her 'dupatta' in Hirapur Bazar," they said.
 
Police sources said that during this Nancy lost her balance and fell on the road and was mowed down by another motorcyclist Faisal. "The police lodged a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested Shahbaz, Arbaz and Faisal," they said.


 
Police sources said that on Sunday the accused were being taken to the community health center for medical examination in the police custody. "While being taken to the custody one of the accused snatched the rifle of a personnel and opened fire on the police team," they said.
 
Police sources said that two accused Shahbaz and Arbaz sustained bullet injuries in retaliatory firing. "One of the accused Faisal sustained a fracture in his leg while attempting to escape. The accused have been admitted to the CHC," they said.
 
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajit Sinha said that prima facie information was received that a girl was killed in an accident after which a case was lodged under the relevant sections of the IPC. "The accused were arrested immediately and after questioning sections of murder and Pocso Act were added in the case," he said.
 
He said that the accused opened fire on the police team from the rifle in a bid to escape. "Two of the accused sustained bullet injuries in retaliatory firing and have been admitted to the CHC. The accused will be taken on remand and a charge sheet will be filed in 10 days," he said. (UNI)
