WATCH - Birbhum violence: BJP MP Roopa Ganguly breaks down in Rajya Sabha, demands President's Rule in West Bengal

New Delhi: BJP member Roopa Ganguly on Friday burst into tears in the Rajya Sabha while raising the issue of killings in Birbhum and demanded President's Rule in West Bengal.

The House witnessed a major uproar by Trinamool Congress members as Ganguly spoke. The House had to be adjourned for a brief period.

"From where should I start? Every day such incidents are reported. There are 26 political murders in a week in West Bengal. Bengal is a part of India, it's not worth living any more... Bengal is a land of Dakshineshwar. We need President's Rule there," Ganguly said and broke down amidst uproar by Trinamool MPs.

Ganguly had to face stiff opposition from Trinamool MPs all the time she spoke. Trinamool members trooped into the well to protest against hers remarks.

Eight people were burnt to death in Rampurhat area of Birbhum on Tuesday as a mob reportedly set homes on fire.

The Calcutta High court ordered a CBI investigation into the Birbhum killings. (UNI)
