New Delhi: India’s Manushi Chillar was on Saturday crowned Miss World, bringing back the honour to the country after 17 years. The last Indian to win the title was Priyanka Chopra in 2000.

Manushi, the 20, year-old medical student, was earlier chosen Miss India World. She hails from Haryana but was born in Delhi.

It was an unbelievable moment for Manushi and her doctor parents when her name was announced in the event held in Sanya city of China this evening.

Miss Mixico was the first Runner's Up and Miss England was the Second Runner's Up. The Indian beauty contested against 108 contestants from various countries. The crown on her head was placed by Miss World 2016 Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle.

Manushi made her entry in the top five with her answer to the question as to which profession she thought deserved highest salary and why.

“I think a mother deserves highest respect. I don’t think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect,’’ was her reply that impressed the judges. (UNI)
