An opening batsman to lead India in ODIs after 14 years

Dharmshala: In the absence of chase master Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma will be given the responsibility to lead the team India against Sri Lanka in the three match ODI series. It is to be noted that Virat Kohli has been rested from the series. Rohit Sharma was appointed as vice captain of the team, when MS Dhoni left the captaincy and throne was handed over to Virat Kohli.
Last time India had an opening batsman as captain in 2003, When left handed batsman Sourav Ganguly lead India in the world cup. However he pushed himself down the order and promoted Virendra Sehwag in opening slot with Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. (WD)
