CWG 2022: Boxers Amit Panghal, Nitu Ghanghas, Nikhat Zareen and Sagar Ahlawat to fight for Gold

Birmingham: India’s boxers Amit Panghal, Nitu Ghanghas, Nikhat Zareen and Sagar Ahlawat advanced to the final of their respective categories at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
Panghal defeated Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba by unanimous decision in the men’s 51kg flyweight semifinal.
This is Panghal’s second-consecutive CWG final - he had won silver at Gold Coast 2018.
He fight for gold against Wales’ Jake Dodd or Kiaran McDonald of England in the final on Sunday.
On the other hand, Nitu beat Canada's Priyanka Dhillon by RSC (referee stops contest) in the women's 48kg mimimum weight semifinal. The win assured her atleast a silver medal.
Nitu, a two-time world youth champion, will be up against Demie-Jade Resztan of England in the summit clash on Sunday.
Reigning world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen defeated England's Savannah Alfiya Stubley by unanimous decision in the semifinal to move to the summit clash of the women's 50kg light flyweight category.
She will fight Northern Ireland’s Carly McNaul, a silver medallist from Gold Coast 2018, in the final on Sunday.
The Indian took control of the fight right from the start. Although Stubley tried to counter but failed to connect as Nikhat evaded her punches comfortably.
In the final round, Nikhat eased up and resorted to defensive tactics, holding her guard up against Stubley. She countered when the Englishwoman attacked and stayed light on her feet to avoid any punches flying her way.
Sagar defeated Ifeanyi Onywekwere of Nigeria in the men's 96kg semi-final by unanimous decision. (Inputs from UNI)
