Perth: Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his stellar rise in international cricket, carving his name alongside some of India’s finest with a century at Optus Stadium during the ongoing tour of Australia on Sunday.

The 22-year-old prodigy has drawn comparisons with legends after stamping his authority on a ground where previous Indian centurions - Sunil Gavaskar (1977), Sachin Tendulkar (1992), and Virat Kohli (2018) —emerged as icons of their generation.

Jaiswal's century at Perth highlights his growing stature as India's next cricketing superstar. With this knock, he became the latest in a select list of Indian openers to score a Test hundred in Australia, the last being KL Rahul’s 110 at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the 2014-15 series.

Jaiswal now shares the record for the most Test hundreds in a calendar year before turning 23 with Sunil Gavaskar (1971) and Vinod Kambli (1993), each scoring four. His 2024 tally also equals that of cricket greats like Ravi Shastri (1984) and Sachin Tendulkar (1992), cementing his place in the pantheon of young achievers.

Additionally, with four centuries to his name, Jaiswal has climbed the ranks in the all-time list of most Test hundreds by an Indian before the age of 23, trailing only Tendulkar (8) and Shastri (5).

Former cricketers and pundits alike are hailing Jaiswal’s innings as a definitive statement. "Scoring a century in Perth is no ordinary feat. It’s a stage that has historically marked the arrival of generational greats,” a cricket analyst remarked.

Jaiswal’s performances in 2024 reflect his maturity and hunger for runs, making him a linchpin in India’s batting order. As he continues to etch his mark on the cricketing world, many believe this is just the beginning of a legendary career.
